A DJI battery is a consumable with a serial number, and its cycle count is the odometer reading of the used drone market. Two identical Mini 4 Pros can differ by $150 in real value based on their batteries alone. This is the check our own buyers run first — and the one private sellers most often hope you'll skip.
Power on the aircraft and controller, open DJI Fly, and navigate to Camera View → ⋯ menu → Safety → Battery Info (on some models: Profile → Device Management → Battery). You'll see cycle count, plus voltage per cell. On enterprise platforms (TB60/TB65/TB30), the DJI Pilot 2 app shows the same data with wear percentages. If a seller won't show you this screen, decide accordingly.

Cycle count reads from the battery's chip — and chips can be reset on some third-party packs, and honest chips don't capture storage abuse. A 60-cycle pack stored fully charged in a hot car for a year can test worse than a 120-cycle pack stored correctly. Swelling is the killer: press gently on the pack's faces — any give or bulge is an immediate reject, regardless of cycles. Check contact corrosion, latch firmness, and that the pack seats without force. Puffed packs aren't a discount item; they're a fire risk with a propeller attached.
If you're buying used, make the battery report your first filter — it's the fastest screen in the process. If you're selling to us, healthy packs measurably raise your quote; our valuation prices batteries separately, exactly because they wear separately.
Under 100 cycles is full-value territory. 100–200 is acceptable with a price adjustment of $30–60 per pack. Over 200, budget for replacement packs — the drone may still be a good buy if priced accordingly.
On genuine DJI packs, no practical reset exists. On some third-party packs, chip data can be unreliable — which is why we run measured capacity tests rather than trusting readouts alone, and flag non-genuine packs on every listing.
Typically 200–300 cycles before capacity drops below 80%, but storage matters as much as use: packs stored at 40–60% charge in cool conditions age dramatically slower than packs stored full in heat.
